Distributed Computing
- Instructor
- Dr. Vijay Garg
- Semester
- Fall 2005
In a word: Awesome. We covered a lot of ground in a field that I find very exciting. This material addresses the problem of multiple computers working on a problem as opposed to multiple CPU’s working on a problem. During my undergrad days, distributed computing was more of a novelty then practical solution. Now-a-days, we see less parallel programming and more distributed programming. (Who knows, maybe it will swing back when commodity processors have 36 cores).
Dr. Garg is also a great teacher. He’s very patient and very receptive to questions. We almost ’stumped’ him a couple times with weird solutions to the problems being discussed, but he was always able to find the flaw (or show how it was equal to an existing soln).
